The Honourable Craig Crawford

The new $47,500 Archer Ulam Rural Fire Station has been officially opened today (Saturday) in Bajool, near Rockhampton.

Representing Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford, Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke opened the new station, which will house one new medium appliance and three slip-on units.

Mr O’Rourke said the Archer Ulam Rural Fire Brigade, established in 1963, had 31 hard-working members - including 28 firefighters.

“The Archer Ulam RFB has grown to meet the expanding needs of the community and they have demonstrated their capability responding to many callouts including in Rockhampton and Bouldercombe,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“The area has changed as Rockhampton has grown and the Archer Ulam Rural Fire Brigade’s capability has grown and changed to meet the changing community needs.”

The new station was built with a $25,000 grant from a Rural Fire Service Construction Grant, and $22,500 raised through a combination of the Rural Fire Levy, donations and local fundraising.

Mr Crawford congratulated the Archer Ulam Rural Fire Brigade on their new station, and thanked them for their dedication to protecting the community.

“The Archer Ulam Rural Fire Brigade is an excellent example of the dedication, professionalism and service that QFES volunteers throughout Queensland put into action every day,” Mr Crawford said.

“This brigade has improved the response capability of the area.”

Mr Crawford said there are 47 brigades - 32 who have their own station - and 1551 volunteers across the Rockhampton region.
