The Palaszczuk Government has today welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to finally fund the Cooroy to Curra Section D Bruce Highway upgrade.

Acting Transport and Main Roads Minister Leeanne Enoch said the Palaszczuk Government had already announced funding for the much needed upgrade during last year’s election campaign and has put $200 million on the table.

“I’m pleased Malcolm Turnbull has seen reason and is following the Palaszczuk Government’s lead by committing funds to this life saving project,” Ms Enoch said.

“As people who travel this part of the Bruce would know, Cooroy to Curra has a reputation of being one of the highway’s most dangerous sections,” she said.

“The final stage of this project between Woondum and Curra will create a Gympie bypass, completing a project that is more than 60km long.

“I want to particularly commend Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders who has been tireless in his advocacy for improvements on this stretch of road.”

Ms Enoch said with the Federal Government announcing it would allocate funding for Section D on an 80:20 basis, it made sense it should also be funding the M1 on a similar basis.

“Both are key freight routes, and the M1 is funded 80:20 across the border in New south Wales. Sadly, in Queensland, the M1 misses out on its fair share of funding,” she said.
