Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe today officially launched the 2018 Brisbane Racing Carnival, an internationally renowned event featuring world class horseracing, food and fashion.

“The Brisbane Racing Carnival attracts tens of thousands of racegoers every year, and always manages to unearth a future star of the turf,” he said.

“Winx kicked off her 25-straight winning run in Queensland, scoring her first Group 1 win at the Brisbane Racing Carnival in 2015.

“She’s now rated the world’s best horse, and some of the leading gallopers in Australasia are keen to follow in her footsteps in Brisbane this winter.

“One of the highlights of this year’s Carnival will be the inaugural Battle of the Bush final, a real city-meets-country contest.

“The Battle of the Bush will bring 16 qualifiers from the country for a rich $100,000 final at Doomben, in a fitting climax to the Carnival.

“The Carnival will also feature world-class fashion, food and entertainment - and Brisbane’s glorious winter weather.

“Thousands of visitors here for the Carnival will go on to visit Queensland’s other great attractions, in a great win for local tourism.

“I can’t wait to get to this year’s Carnival, and I’d encourage anyone who loves racing, food and fashion to be a part of it all.”

The Brisbane Racing Carnival is part of the wider $15 million Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, featuring major race days Toowoomba Turf Club, Gold Coast Turf Club, Sunshine Coast Turf Club and Ipswich Turf Club in addition to Doomben.
