GC2018 Games Shapers invited to share a meal and memories at farewell event

The outstanding efforts of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games’ Games Shapers will be recognised at a celebration event this weekend.

Gates will open at the southern end of the Broadwater Parklands in Southport from 3:00pm, with entertainment from local and international artists beginning from 3:30pm.

Food trucks will provide refreshment which is free to Games Shapers who are encouraged to wear their uniforms one last time.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will join the Governor-General of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove, Minister for the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones, GOLDOC Chairman Peter Beattie and the Acting Mayor of City of Gold Coast Donna Gates at the Broadwater Parklands this Saturday 21 April, passing on a heartfelt thank you to the Games Shapers.

“We sent the call out for volunteers in February 2017,” the Premier said.

“An incredible 47,000 applied for the 15,000 positions needed and everyone I met commented how friendly and helpful they were.”

Minister for the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones thanked the 15,000 Games Shapers for their enthusiasm and dedication.

“Our Games Shapers were the back-bone of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games,” she said.

“This is our chance for everyone to say thanks.”
