Great chance to win grant for road safety

The Palaszczuk Government is encouraging Queenslanders who have a passion for making the state’s roads safer to apply for funding.

The 2018 round of the Community Road Safety Grants scheme is now open, and community groups, councils and schools are encouraged to get involved.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the grants would help local organisations save lives and prevent injury on our roads and in their communities.

“We need to do all we can to keep Queenslanders safe, and local projects run by community members are a great way to do this,” Mr Bailey said.

“These are real projects, impacting local communities, that make a difference on the ground.

“I encourage organisations to get together and brainstorm innovative ideas to address local road safety issues.

Mr Bailey said grants of up to $20,000 were available for short-term projects.

“Longer-term funding for up to three years is available to deliver road safety education to senior students or support pre-learner or novice drivers obtaining licences,” he said.

The Community Road Safety Grants scheme has committed more than $13.5 million to 215 community groups since its inception in 2013.

This funding has contributed to 298 initiatives, including bicycle and child restraint education, resources and training, heavy vehicle fatigue initiatives, road safety education and learner driver mentoring programs.

The Queensland Government’s Road Safety Strategy 2015-21 calls on everyone in the community – government, business and citizens – to take action, whenever and wherever, to improve safety on our roads.
