Education Minister Grace Grace has welcomed the start of construction on a $6.6 million facility, to replace the historic school buildings which were destroyed by fire last Anzac Day.

“I know the Dalby community was rocked last year when their beloved heritage-listed school building burned to the ground,” Ms Grace said.

“This was a devastating event which really brought the already close-knit Dalby community together.

“I am delighted that work has now commenced to rebuild the school, with the Palaszczuk Government investing $6.6 million to deliver a new school building.

“The new two-storey building will include five classrooms, a music room, an outdoor learning area and administration spaces.

“The best part is, through our Queensland Procurement Policy, Dalby-based company New State Builders were awarded the contract to deliver this new facility.”

Ms Grace said the entire school community, including the Parents and Citizens Association, were involved in the planning for the new building.

“With work now underway, the new facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018,” she said.

Dalby State School principal, Mona Anau has thanked the local community for their tireless support.

“It has been a long process, however, let’s embrace the fact that the building stage has commenced and our students, parents and staff cannot wait for the new building to finish,” Ms Anau said.

“There has been continual communication with staff, parents, P&C and school council around the progress leading up to the construction stage.

“The support after the fire has been amazing and we want to share our new facility with our school and wider community. We continue to be resilient, strong and positive at Dalby State School.

“The day in which we will be able to move into the new buildings will be a day of celebration.”
