The Honourable Shannon Fentiman

Disaster assistance has been activated for Small Business in a number of Councils affected by the recent heavy rains across North Queensland and Severe Tropical Cyclone Nora and Associated Flooding.

Minister for Small Business Shannon Fentiman said Category B assistance was activated for the Hinchinbrook Shire Council, the Cassowary Coast Regional Council and Cairns Regional Council.

“North Queensland saw significant rainfall from the two recent weather systems that has impacted on small business,” Minister Fentiman said.

“To help the businesses that have been affected, we have activated Category B assistance under the joint Queensland and Australian Government’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).”

“Our response to Queenslanders and small business owners are a top priority for the Palaszczuk Government and I encourage Small Business owners affected by recent weather in North Queensland to reach out for assistance.”

Category B assistance includes concessional loans of up to $250,000 and essential working capital loans of up to $100,000.

“We will be working closely with Councils and Chambers of Commerce to monitor the situation to and advise if further additions to Category B activation are required,” Minister Fentiman said.

Category B Natural Disaster Assistance loans are administered by the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) on behalf of the Queensland and Commonwealth Governments. For more information or to apply visit www.qrida.qld.gov.au or freecall 1800 623 946.
