Tamborine Mountain’s Main Street has been transformed with the official opening of the $1.45 million revamped median strips, the Village Greens.

Assistant Minister for Veterans Affairs and Assistant Minister of State Jennifer Howard represented Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe at the official opening today.

The project was partly funded with a contribution of more than $870,000 from the Palaszczuk Government.

“With its art and heritage features, the Village Greens on Tamborine Mountainwill attract even more tourists and locals to this hinterland hot-spot,” Ms Howard said.

“I want to congratulate the Scenic Rim Regional Council on getting this job done in time for the Queen’s Baton Relay visit on 1 April.

“This revitalisation will bring long-term benefits to the region, delivering jobs and stimulating the local economy.”

The project features seating, heritage features and environmental plantings alongside sculptures of local native animals, steel poetry panels of works by local poetry groups and interpretive signs including stories supplied by the Tamborine Mountain Historical Society.

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said: “The outstanding Village Greens revitalisation is a great example of why the Palaszczuk Government supports councils and communities to invest in new and improved infrastructure.

“Our investment of more than $870,000 has transformed the three central Main Street medians into people-friendly art and picnic spaces.

“It’s had the added bonus of supporting jobs for more than 90 people, with six construction companies and more than 20 suppliers involved in bringing this project to life.”

Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor Greg Christensen said the Scenic Rim Regional Council is committed to creating places and spaces that promote the unique character of the region through the Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages initiative.

“The Tamborine Mountain Village Greens project promotes positive economic and social outcomes and reflects Tamborine Mountain's unique personality,” Cr Christensen said.

The Palaszczuk Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program contributed $870,051 along with the Scenic Rim Regional Council contribution of $580,034 towards the project.
