The Palaszczuk Government has today announced the membership of the Stakeholder Advisory Group that will co-design Queensland’s statewide waste management strategy.

Minister for Environment Leeanne Enoch said the group would consist of representatives from across the waste industry and key business groups. Groups represented will include Local Government Association of Queensland, Australian Council of Recycling, Waste Recycling Industry Association (Queensland), Waste Management Association of Australia, Sustainable Business Australia and Master Builders Association Queensland.

Chamber of Commerce Industry Queensland and Australian Industry Group have also been offered an open invitation to join the Stakeholder Advisory Group.

“Through a collaborative and consultative process the Palaszczuk Government will deliver a comprehensive strategy to stop interstate waste trucks, improve environmental outcomes, build industry and create jobs,” Ms Enoch said.

“The Stakeholder Advisory Group will play an important role in shaping Queensland’s waste management framework to deliver positive environmental and economic benefits to our state.

“It is important we get this right – including the implementation of a levy – and ensure we have input from multiple areas to determine the most appropriate way forward.”

Ms Enoch has also asked the Local Government Association of Queensland to ensure there is regional representation in the Stakeholder Advisory Group.

“I will also urge other members who hold a statewide role to ensure they seek feedback from regional members.

“The group will also ensure there are opportunities for regional communities and businesses to engage with during the consultation process.”

The Stakeholder Advisory Group will hold its first meeting on Friday.
