Sporting clubs and affiliated charities can now sign up for free to a new fundraising program designed to support healthy and active communities.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones said MyGames 2018 was a partnership between the Queensland Government’s Embracing 2018 Legacy Program and the global fundraising platform, everydayhero.

"MyGames 2018 gives sporting clubs the opportunity to fundraise online through social media networks and receive direct donations. This initiative will provide a vital boost to local clubs in the lead-up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games,” she said.

“The usual cost of creating a fundraising page with everydayhero is $600. There is no cost for registration on MyGames 2018 – this is a great saving for sporting clubs.

“Fundraisers registered on MyGames 2018 before May 2018 will be able to stay on the platform post-Games, giving sporting clubs ongoing access to a valuable fundraising tool.”

Ms Jones said MyGames 2018 users were encouraged to set challenges and then share their fundraising page with family, friends and supporters.

“The platform engages the community and promotes an active lifestyle which is vital for the future of healthy Queenslanders,” she said.

“Featured charities will also benefit from the platform, with subscribers offered the opportunity to donate to their cause, supporting a variety of recipients locally and nationwide.”

Former Australian beach volleyballer Natalie Cook OAM said MyGames 2018 provided an ideal platform for sporting clubs to inspire their local communities.

“Empowering our local sporting clubs to grow will help build active, engaged and inclusive communities by motivating people to move more, value their health and be active for life,” she said.

“I encourage clubs across Queensland to get online and discover how they can benefit from registering for MyGames2018.”

MyGames 2018 is a partnership between the Queensland Government’s Embracing 2018 Legacy Program, and the global fundraising platform, everydayhero, with funding from the Australian Government.
