Palaszczuk Government helps storm-affected sports clubs

The Palaszczuk Government has moved swiftly to support sports clubs recovering from heavy rain and flooding earlier this month.

Sport Minister Mick de Brenni said affected clubs are eligible for up to $5000 under the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program.

“Queenslanders know how important it is to work together on recovery after a disaster. That’s why we’ve immediately declared that support is available for the Isaac Regional Council local government area under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements,” said Mr de Brenni.

“Sport and recreation clubs are the lifeblood of most communities and I think the whole State wants to see help for disaster affected regions to assist with immediate clean-up costs and repair or replacement of sports gear and infrastructure,” he said.

Mr de Brenni said the Palaszczuk Government values the vital role sport and recreation clubs play in Queensland’s communities.

“As Queenslanders we are known to pull together in adversity, that’s why getting the community back on its feet and seeing sports clubs up and running is a priority,” he said.

“My message to all clubs is that if you’ve have been impacted, you can ask for help by submitting an application by 23 May 2018.

“This disaster recovery funding is about demonstrating to the volunteers, the kids and the whole community that we value their clubs and will help them when they need it most.

“I want to make sure that we give as much support as we can, especially given many volunteers already have enough on their hands with their own homes and businesses.”

Application forms for the recovery grants are available from Sport and Recreation offices or at www.npsr.qld.gov.au, or by phoning 13 74 68 for assistance.
