Games journey planner is go for GC2018 spectators

Planning your travel to and from events during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be a breeze thanks to the Commonwealth Games dedicated Journey Planner, officially launched today a month and a half before the games.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the planner was a key tool for spectators to use for travel during the Gold Coast’s biggest ever spectacle.

“If you’re travelling to GC2018 or any of the Festival 2018 sites during the Games, the GC2018 Journey Planner will be your go-to,” Mr Bailey said.

“With information on train, tram, bus and shuttle services - as well as walking and cycling options - it helps make public and active transport the easiest and best way to get around during GC2018.

“We have also delivered 10,000 spaces across 13 park ‘n’ ride sites to cater to Gold Coast based spectators using public transport to get to and from GC2018.

“Park ‘n’ ride travel is free for spectators on the day of their ticketed event. They must be pre booked and the GC2018 Journey Planner is the place to do that.”

Mr Bailey said the journey planner wouldn’t just assist spectators and volunteers on the Gold Coast.

“The event cities of Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville will also benefit from the technology, with the planner being custom built to include these regions,” he said.

“The customer experience the GC2018 Journey Planner offers is second to none – all people have to do is enter where they are travelling from and the event and session time they are attending and it has the smarts to determine which transport stop is closest to that venue and the different options to get there, including public and active transport.

“We will be constantly monitoring the transport network during GC2018 and providing updates on service adjustments via the GC2018 journey planner.

“People can also search for accessible transport options using the dedicated planner.”

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) Chairman Peter Beattie AC said the Journey Planner sits within the GC2018 app which has already been downloaded over 10,000 times.

“We are encouraging everyone to have a look at what tickets they have and the transport options available to them now and start planning their Games journeys with plenty of time before games time,” Mr Beattie said.

“We also encourage people to plan a little extra travel time to make sure they get where they want to go without having to rush.

“The free GC2018 app is a unique tool that also includes details on all the sports, venues, Queen’s Baton Relay, Festival 2018 and much more,” he said.
