LNP betraying Queensland on GST carve up

Rookie Queensland LNP Leader Deb Frecklington has been completely absent from the GST redistribution debate which will see Queensland’s GST share gutted by her colleagues in the Turnbull Government.

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad today highlighted that no member of the LNP had taken the opportunity today in Queensland Parliament to make their position clear on the devastating cut.

“The LNP are missing in action on this critical issue. Queensland is facing a cut of $1.6 billion and there is nothing but silence from Ms Frecklington,” Ms Trad said.

“It’s time to come clean, frankly.

“Where does she stand on this massive hit on Queenslanders?  Does she think it’s wrong?

“If Deb Frecklington is on Team Queensland she should come out and stand up against Malcolm Turnbull’s proposed cut to the Queensland economy.

“Under the reforms being proposed by Malcolm Turnbull’s Productivity Commission Queensland stands to lose 5000 teachers, 5000 nurses, 3000 police offices and over 1100 firefighters.

"That’s the same amount of damage inflicted on Queensland Campbell Newman’s Government, in which the now Leader of the Opposition was an Assistant Minister.

“With their silence on this issue the Ms Frecklington has demonstrated that she cannot be trusted to stand up for Queensland, instead choosing to toe the party line to protect her mates in Canberra.

“The LNP couldn’t even be bothered putting in a submission or appearing at the hearing.

“We may disagree with WA’s stance but at least the Liberal Opposition there put in a submission advocating against Turnbull’s government.

“In fact, the opposition in WA, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory all appeared or put in submissions to the Productivity Commission inquiry.

“It’s clear that it’s the same old LNP under the Member for Nanango – she sold out Queenslanders when she voted to sack 14,000 workers, and she’s selling out Qlders now on Turnbull’s $1.6 billion GST cut.”

The GST redistribution is set to be handed down in May, while Ms Frecklington’s silence is expected to continue.
