Female business owners in the Whitsunday region are set to benefit from a dedicated business bootcamp aimed at enhancing their skills and providing opportunities to learn and network.

Minister for Employment and Small Business, Shannon Fentiman, said the Women in Rural, Regional and Remote Enterprise (WiRE) program will be hosting the bootcamp for up to 40 women.

“The WiRE program is just one organisation that partners with the Palaszczuk Government in achieving the goals of the Advancing Women in Business initiative,” Ms Fentiman said.

“When Cyclone Debbie made landfall in March last year, it brought severe destruction to homes and businesses in the Whitsunday region, and the consequences are still far reaching.

“The Whitsundays was chosen as the ideal region to assist small businesses to get back on their feet and have the guidance they need to continue to grow.

“This program delivers bootcamps to tackle the major barriers women face, whether they are starting up a new business or growing their existing business.

“The bootcamp runs for two days and provides mentor support, builds business confidence and is a great way to network and receive advice and information on growing a business.

“It will include interactive group activities, brain storming sessions to explore new business ideas, and support from experienced mentors.

“Women make a very valuable contribution to the small businesses and regional economies of Queensland - they make up 34 per cent of all business operations in Australia.

“This bootcamp will go a long way to inspiring more regional women in business.”

The Advancing Women in Business initiative is a component of the Queensland Government’s $22.7 million Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy 2016-20.

The Business Growth Bootcamp will be held in Airlie Beach on 20 and 21 February 2018. To register for this free training, visit www.wireprogram.com/business-womens-bootcamp
