Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services
The Honourable Mark Ryan

Today the Minister for Police Mark Ryan MP joined Assistant Commissioner Mike Condon, Southern Region, to officially open the Constable Peter McAulay Charity Golf Day at Sandy Gallop Golf Club.

The Charity Golf Day was open to members of the public, businesses and emergency services personnel, organised in support of Constable McAulay, who was critically injured in September.

Minister Ryan said it was wonderful to see the way the Queensland Police Service had rallied around one of its own.

“I would like to acknowledge the work that Senior Sergeant Kim Clist has done in organising this great event, showing an exemplary level of support within the QPS when one of their own is facing hardship.

“I’m sure Constable McAulay’s family are touched by the gestures of goodwill shown over the past few months, and appreciative of all the help provided,” the Minister said.

Approximately 100 prizes were donated for the golf day, and Harvey Norman Booval was the major supporter for the event.

These donations were used for auction items, golf prizes, raffles and lucky door prizes.

There were tee-offs at the charity golf day at 7am and 12pm, with 144 players in total nominated to participate.

Assistant Commissioner Condon said this event was a powerful show of support by the public, the QPS and emergency services for a valued member of the community.

“The way everyone has rallied around Constable McAulay and his family in this time of need is truly inspiring,” Assistant Commissioner Condon said.

Constable McAulay was critically injured when he was struck by a stolen car at Bundamba in September.

Shortly after the incident, the Queensland Police Union of Employees established bank accounts at QBank and Westpac to raise funds for Peter McAulay.

Goodna Police then began their own fundraising initiatives to assist, the main event to raise money for Constable McAulay being this charity golf day.

Constable McAulay has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home, and will undergo further surgery in the new year.
