The Honourable Mark Bailey

Safety upgrades have been completed on a 2.3-kilometre section of the Bruce Highway at Monduran, about 21 kilometres north of Gin Gin.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the $9.8 million safety upgrades were funded under the Caboolture to St Lawrence Pavement Widening package, and would provide safer road conditions and better traffic flow between Gin Gin and Miriam Vale.

“These safety works included the construction of a wide centreline treatment to increase the distance between vehicles travelling in opposite directions,” Mr McCormack said.

“The one-metre separation between lanes is crucial to reducing the number of head-on crashes – just one way in which our $10 billion investment in a safer Bruce Highway is saving lives in Queensland.”

Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey thanked motorists for their patience and understanding while the works were completed.

“The community has shown great patience during construction, and I thank everyone for obeying the road signs, slowing down and driving carefully,” Mr Bailey said.

“I am sure all those who travel on this section will appreciate the safety benefits of the work that has been carried out.

“The Queensland Government will continue to work with the Australian Government to see continued investment in the highway, targeting vital safety improvements.”

Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said the project also included upgrading the Carmans Road and Tessellaris Trail intersections to provide safer turning movements.

“These works are an excellent example of what can be achieved when the Australian and Queensland governments work together to improve safety on our roads,” Mr O’Dowdsaid.

“An average of 30 direct jobs were supported over the life of the project.”

The Australian Government has committed up to $91.2 million to the $113.8 million Bruce Highway Pavement Widening – Caboolture to St Lawrence package, with the Queensland Government providing the remaining $22.6 million.

The $9.8 million project was jointly funded with the Australian Government contributing $7.8 million and the Queensland Government contributing $2 million.
