Liberals in NSW, SA sell-out on additional public school funding

A humiliating backdown on public school funding by Liberal governments in New South Wales and South Australia will make it more difficult for Queensland to secure additional public school funding, Education Minister Grace Grace said.

“New South Wales and South Australia have put party politics before public schools by signing education funding agreements with the Morrison Government that fail to secure additional federal funding for public schools similar to the $1.2 billion slush fund provided to non-government schools,” Ms Grace said.

“By signing up to their respective agreements, both state governments have let the Morrison Government off the hook from providing a similar funding boost for public schools.

“While I don’t begrudge non-government schools receiving additional funding, we want to ensure public schools also receive equivalent funding increases.

“New South Wales and South Australia have now made it more difficult for Queensland to get a deal that puts all schools on a level playing field.

“The Palaszczuk Government will continue to advocate for our public schools to receive their fair share of additional funding commensurate with the Morrison’s Government’s special deal for private schools. However, our efforts have now been compromised by the forced surrender of New South Wales and South Australia to the Morrison Government.”
