Celebrating the passionate Queenslanders behind our dedicated volunteers

Behind many of Queensland’s hardworking volunteers is a dedicated group of people and agencies who recruit, coordinate, train and support them.

Today is International Volunteer Managers Day, recognising these passionate Queenslanders who enable the state’s volunteers to be successful.

Acting Minister for Communities Shannon Fentiman encouraged Queensland’s communities to thank the people and agencies supporting our volunteers.

“The spirit of volunteerism in Queensland is enhanced by the hard work that goes on behind the scenes,” Ms Fentiman said.

“The efforts of these hard working Queenslanders takes the singular passion of our volunteers and turns it into collective action.

“With our volunteer managers, Queensland’s volunteers are able to come together and support our state’s thriving communities.”

This year, the theme for International Volunteer Managers Day is ‘Time for Change’, exploring the changes needed to ensure volunteer managers remain relevant and powerful into the future.

CEO of Volunteering Queensland Mara Basanovic said volunteering would not occur without the skill and expertise of volunteer managers and their dedication to lead with passion, knowledge and commitment.

“On International Volunteer Managers Day we acknowledge and thank the thousands of volunteer managers for enhancing the spirit of volunteerism through their drive to build stronger, connected communities through volunteering,” she said.

“Volunteering Queensland represents the interests of over 714,000 Queensland volunteers.

“Each day thousands of paid and unpaid volunteer managers support our volunteers to enhance the lives of those in need and provide powerful, impactful volunteering experiences that have helped unify and strengthen our sector.”
