Acting Tourism Industry Development Minister Shannon Fentiman said the opening of new designer hotel ‘Ovolo The Valley’ was a major vote of confidence in Brisbane - reaffirming the city’s growing reputation as a world-class tourism destination.

“The opening tops off a big year, with Ovolo The Valley being the eighth hotel to launch in the inner city,” she said.

“The eight hotels that have opened in Brisbane so far this year represent around $800 million in private investment and have delivered 1000 new jobs in our city.

“We’re proud to have Girish and his team bring the unique style and signature experience associated with the award-winning Ovolo brand to Brisbane yet again.”

The group had already established a presence in Brisbane, investing about $40 million to acquire and reposition the Ovolo Inchcolm Hotel to be the rate leader in the Brisbane market.

Ms Fentiman said 90 people work at both Ovolo properties but that number was expected to grow to almost 110 when the restaurant and bar opens at Ovolo The Valley in early 2019.

“As one of Hong Kong’s largest independent hotel owners and operators, Ovolo Group has chosen to invest more than $90 million in Brisbane’s booming tourism industry, providing a total of 152 extra rooms in Brisbane,” she said.
