Construction starts on new Victoria Point Central bus station

Victoria Point’s new bus station will increase capacity, improve efficiency and reduce journey times for passengers, Member for Redlands Kim Richards says.

Construction is now under way on the $9.77 million station that will provide platforms on both sides of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road.

“This is going to make a big difference for public transport users in this fast-growing community,” Ms Richards said.

“When the station opens late next year it will have capacity for six buses at two sheltered platforms at the heart of Victoria Point.

“The location is ideal – close to health services, shops, schools and the business district.

“It will also provide more reliable connections to the surrounding public transport network, including Cleveland Station, Victoria Point Jetty and Redland Bay Marina.

“And the design will allow for an expansion of public transport to meet future needs as the local population grows.”

Ms Richards said design had been guided by the public.

“There was extensive consultation with residents so we can be confident it meets their expectations.”

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government was acting on its commitment to improve public Transport facilities for all on the Redlands Coast.

“Importantly the new bus station will improve safety, comfort and accessibility for all who use it.

“There will be improved lighting, security cameras with 24-hour video recording, bike storage facilities and amenities for bus drivers.

“The good news for the local economy is that will also support an average of 24 jobs over the life of the project.”

Mr Bailey said bus services would continue to run as normal to the existing bus stops on Bunker Road until the new bus station was completed.

TransLink will notify bus passengers of changes to local bus services closer to the station opening.
