Detailed design work for upgrades to the four Southern Bay Moreton Bay Islands will start soon.

Member for Redlands Kim Richards confirmed the Department of Transport and Main Roads is working with Redlands City Council and will help fund the upgrades through a $17.5 million fund established for ferry terminal upgrades in the latest state budget.

“I am very pleased to announce today that we are making progress towards meeting our election commitment to upgrade the terminals,” Ms Richards said.

“Transport and Main Roads will lead the detailed design work after the Palaszczuk Government provided $250,000 to Redlands City Council in 2016-17 towards planning and development of a business case.

“Funding will be allocated over the coming months as part of our commitment to the Southern Moreton Bay Island community.

“Ferry services to Russell, Macleay, Lamb and Karragarra Islands depart regularly from the Redland Bay Ferry Terminal (Weinam Creek), Redland Bay to support local residents and visitors to this beautiful part of Queensland.

“TransLink’s go card, single tickets and passes are accepted on SMBI passenger ferry services,” she said.

TMR will continue to work with RCC to progress the business case for these important upgrades.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government had a strong record of investing in transport services to the Redlands community.

“The $8.15 million upgrade to Redland Bay Marina bus station was opened in 2017, providing a link for passengers who transfer between TransLink’s SMBI ferry and bus services,” he said.

Funding assistance is provided to local governments by TMR for accessibility upgrades to passenger transport facilities, typically on a 50:50 funding basis.
