Transformation begins for Oxley secondary school site

The landscape of the former Oxley Secondary College site will soon be rejuvenated, with principal contractor Rosenlund Deconstruction Civil Engineering set to begin works to dismantle the site.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, Cameron Dick said Rosenlund comes with demonstrated experience, and were awarded the work following a competitive tender process.

“Rosenlund has 50 years of experience and have successfully managed the dismantling of many large-scale Queensland developments, including the Gold Coast Hospital and Surfers International Beach Resort,” Mr Dick said.

“The company is committed to the health and safety of workers, residents and local businesses, and will carry out their work with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.

“We have also engaged a licensed sub-contractor for the removal and cartage of identified asbestos from the site – works which will be undertaken in accordance with all relevant acts, regulations and guidelines.

“The demolition and removal of all existing infrastructure and buildings, and remediation of the site, is expected to be completed by the end of January 2019.”

Member for Mount Ommaney Jess Pugh said it was an exciting time for Oxley residents, with consultation ensuring Economic Development Queensland could deliver the best possible outcome for the community. 

“This redevelopment is an exciting urban renewal that will transform the site into a space the entire community can be proud of,” Ms Pugh said.

“These demolition works are the start of what will become a beautiful development for our growing area.

“When works are completed, the 19-hectare site will offer a community hub, sport and playing fields, and will see the relocation of the Yuingi childcare centre to higher ground.

“Additionally, it will also feature space for 74 residential homes, with a large average block size of 800 square metres.”

Rosenlund Managing Director Neil Rosenlund said neighbouring residents can expect to see perimeter fencing installed and a temporary office set up on site next week.

“We will then begin to disconnect services, install environmental controls and tree protections,” Mr Rosenlund said.
