Tennis Queensland serves a commitment to Multicultural Charter

Tennis Queensland has formally shown its support of the Multicultural Queensland Charter, signing a copy of the Charter at Sunnybank Hills State School, and committing to uphold the Charter’s principles.

The Charter is an integral part of the Multicultural Recognition Act 2016, which overwhelmingly received bi-partisan support when debated in Parliament and demonstrates the Queensland Government’s support for multiculturalism.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Stirling Hinchliffe praised Tennis Queensland for publicly pledging to work towards building aprosperous, fair and harmonious Queensland.
 
“By embracing the principles of the Multicultural Queensland Charter, Tennis Queensland is recognising that diversity deepens and enriches our community and provides an invaluable asset for Queensland’s future,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Having Tennis Queensland on board is a particularly good fit as tennis is one of the most popular sports here and around the world, regardless of age, race, gender or faith.
 
“The Multicultural Queensland Charter, at its heart, is about a commitment to foster a harmonious, inclusive and unified community.
 
“We all have a role to play in this and an organisation like Tennis Queensland can have a strong and loud voice in bringing the Charter’s principles to life.”
 
Member for Stretton Duncan Pegg was thrilled the Sunnybank Hills State School students were able to witness the event.
 
“This type of commitment will have a positive impact on the lives of not only young local tennis players but all young Queenslanders, as we move to build an even more welcoming and harmonious place to live and play,” Mr Pegg said.
 
“The students here at Sunnybank Hills already breathe diversity every day and witnessing a commitment like this from Tennis Queensland reinforces the message that diversity truly enhances a community.”
 
In signing a copy of the Charter, Tennis Queensland Chief Executive Mark Handley said:

“We look forward to taking a leadership role in engaging and improving the health and social lives of people from diverse backgrounds.

“Tennis genuinely is a sport for everyone and we are committed to continue to providing opportunities and make tennis accessible to all Queenslanders.”
 
The Multicultural Queensland Charter was jointly signed by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and the Speaker Peter Wellington on 23 August 2017.
