Yeerongpilly Green’s public parks and pedestrian ‘spine’ were officially opened today, in time for what’s shaping up as another huge summer of tennis for Brisbane.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the Palaszczuk Government’s $30 million commitment to the parks and public infrastructure of the urban renewal precinct will contribute greatly to what he calls “a living, breathing showpiece for the area”.

“The pedestrian walkway provides a perfect link from the train station through the site, creating a direct route to the Queensland Tennis Centre, Ken Fletcher Park and Tennyson Reach,” he said.

“This enhanced connectivity between Pat Rafter Arena and the railway station is going to make getting to and from the Brisbane International so much easier.

“Around 90,000 people attend this great tournament over its seven days, so this infrastructure is really vital to managing the masses and growing the event further.”

Mr Dick said, when completed, Yeerongpilly Green will be home to 3,000 new residents, a range of commercial and retail businesses, including a boutique hotel, and 2.4 hectares of parkland and open space.

“Construction over 10 years will generate around 6,600 construction jobs, including 335 apprentice jobs, and 1,000 full-time long-term jobs on completion,” he said.

“Our government is extremely proud to have backed this transformative project – one that will provide significant value to the local economy.”

Member for Miller Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government had worked hard to ensure the urban design of the public areas was of an extremely high quality.

“These areas are central to all activity at Yeerongpilly Green. As the key pedestrian and cycle network between Yeerongpilly Station and the heart of this new precinct, and beyond to the tennis centre, it cohesively links every element here,” he said.

“People now have a fantastic space to enjoy, on their way to the tennis centre or experiencing the restaurants, parks, playgrounds, and future apartments and offices of Yeerongpilly Green.”

Consolidated Properties Group Executive Chairman Don O’Rorke said to create this wonderful environment near the city with key transport links, while providing amazing elements of lifestyle infrastructure for the local community, has been very fulfilling.

“Yeerongpilly Green is one of our flagship developments and we are extremely proud to have partnered with the state government in its creation,” Mr O’Rorke said.

Tennis Queensland CEO Mark Handley said the opening of Yeerongpilly Green and the pedestrian spine means the tennis journey for sports fans will start the moment they step off the train.

“Whether people are attending the Brisbane International, or just visiting the Queensland Tennis Centre throughout the year, their walk towards the iconic Pat Rafter Arena will now be so much more, with restaurants and social spaces enhancing the experience,” he said.

“The beautification of the Yeerongpilly precinct makes it an even more attractive pocket of Brisbane for residents, families, and everyone using the tennis centre.”
