Community to get a peek at proposed Petrie intersection upgrade

Locals are invited to provide feedback on a preferred design for the Petrie Roundabout Upgrade at the Anzac Avenue, Dayboro Road and Gympie Road intersection.

Member for Kurwongbah Shane King said input from residents in the area and road users would be critical in shaping the design solution for the $30 million upgrade.

“The Petrie roundabout is one of the busiest intersections in south-east Queensland and is a major bottleneck during peak periods,” Mr King said.

“Significant regional and local developments, such as the University of the Sunshine Coast campus and the Mill at Moreton Bay, will further increase traffic demand in the future.

“Tens of thousands of motorists travel through it every day to get to work, visit the local businesses or drop their kids off at school.

“We want their feedback to help improve connectivity in the Moreton Bay Region.” 

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said detailed design began in July and a preferred option had been developed.

“The preferred design includes replacing the roundabout with a signalised T-intersection, widening the roads on approach to the intersection to provide additional turning lanes and improving active transport facilities,” he said.

“A signalised U-turn facility is also proposed on Gympie Road for local access to Mill Street.

“The much-needed upgrade will cater for existing and future traffic demands, reduce the time motorists spend stuck in queues and improve safety for all road users.”

Consultation kicks off on October 23 and all feedback must be received by close of business on Friday November 16.

“Your feedback is important and will assist in finalising the design for the Petrie Roundabout Upgrade,” Mr King said.

It is anticipated a final design will be available to the community by late 2019.

Funding for the Petrie Roundabout Upgrade has been allocated in the State Government’s Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) 2018-19 to 2021-22.
