Police Minister Mark Ryan says the latest data shows Moreton Police District currently has more police officers than the QPS approved allocation.

“There are currently 390 officers in Moreton,” Minister Ryan said.

“That is 29 officers more than the QPS allocation of 361 permanent positions.

“I am sure residents in the Moreton region will be pleased to know that QPS is so well resourced and focused on fighting crime and community safety.”

Mr Ryan said while the Palaszczuk Government was committed to recruit an additional 535 frontline police and operational specialists over the next four years, the allocation of police resources was determined by the Police Commissioner.

“The Commissioner decides where officers should be based and it is vital that he is free make operational decisions without political interference.

“QPS is constantly reviewing options to ensure the best possible service is provided to all Queensland communities, including the Moreton region,” he said.

“Modern policing methods are centred on greater use of technology and flexibility to ensure the most effective and timely response to any emerging issues.

“The Palaszczuk Government is backing our frontline with more police, more police stations, more technology and more specialist officers.”
