Gold Coast police numbers higher than QPS allocation

Police Minister Mark Ryan says the latest data shows there are more police officers on the Gold Coast than the QPS approved allocation.

“There are currently 856.65 FTE officers in the Gold Coast Police District,” Minister Ryan said.

“That is 15 officers more than the QPS allocation of 841 permanent positions.

“I am sure Gold Coast residents and business operators will be pleased to know that QPS is so well resourced and focused on fighting crime and community safety.”

Mr Ryan said while the Palaszczuk Government was committed to recruit an additional 535 frontline police and operational specialists over the next four years, the allocation of police resources was determined by the Police Commissioner.

“The Commissioner decides where officers should be based and it is vital that he is free make operational decisions without political interference.

“QPS is constantly reviewing options to ensure the best possible service is provided to all Queensland communities, including on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“Modern policing methods are centred on greater use of technology and flexibility to ensure the most effective and timely response to any emerging issues.

“The Palaszczuk Government is backing our frontline with more police, more police stations, more technology and more specialist officers.”
