Police Minister Mark Ryan says the latest data shows the Darling Downs currently has more police officers than the QPS allocation.

“There are currently 347.67 FTE officers in the Darling Downs Police Division,” Minister Ryan said.

“That is eight officers more than the QPS allocation of 339 permanent positions.

“I am sure that the people of Toowoomba and the Darling Downs will be very pleased to know that QPS is so well resourced and focused on fighting crime and community safety.”

Mr Ryan said while the Palaszczuk Government was committed to recruit an additional 535 frontline police and operational specialists over the next four years, the allocation of police resources was determined by the Police Commissioner.

“The Commissioner decides where officers should be based and it is vital that he is free make operational decisions without political interference.

“QPS is constantly reviewing options to ensure the best possible service is provided to all Queensland communities, including the Darling Downs,” he said.

“Modern policing methods are centred on greater use of technology and flexibility to ensure the most effective and timely response to any emerging issues.

“The Palaszczuk Government is backing our frontline with more police, more police stations, more technology and more specialist officers.”
