Gold Coast the new home for The Logies

Australian television’s night of nights, the TV WEEK Logie Awards, has a new home on the Gold Coast.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland has secured the event for the next four years.

“My Government’s commitment to the TV WEEK Logies is a great investment in Queensland,” the Premier said.

“Queensland has rightfully earned a reputation as the powerhouse of Australia’s film industry, but increasingly we’re taking that role in television as well, for both domestic and international productions.

“We look forward to bringing Australia’s greatest television performers to the Gold Coast, showcasing both the strength of our industry and the appeal of Queensland.”

The Premier said Logies was a perfect fit for the Gold Coast and securing the event from 2018 onwards underlined Queensland’s reputation as Australia’s best tourism and events destination.

“The Logies is Australian television’s premiere event, drawing more than one million viewers each year for the live broadcast,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“We have been in negotiations to host The Logies for more than two years, because we know the value it brings for the host city and state.

“The Logies will deliver more than $40 million in publicity value alone for Queensland while we’ll also work closely with Bauer Media and Channel Nine to leverage the opportunity through two of Australia’s leading media platforms.”

Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones said the Logies provides a valuable platform to showcase the best of the Gold Coast and Queensland.

“Next year marks the 60^th Logie Awards and it will be the first time they have been staged in Queensland,” Ms Jones said.

“There’s no better place than the Gold Coast for The Logies to call home.

“Hosting the Logies offers so much more than just a one night awards show.

“The Palaszczuk Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland, will maximise the benefits of The Logies ceremony night and also in the months leading up to the event.

“We will use our promotion of this event to leverage marketing of our unique tourism experiences and world-class events calendar.

“We want to build Queensland’s reputation as Australia’s leading tourism and events destination and drive visitation to our state.

“In 2018, the Gold Coast will be home of gold medals and the Gold Logie.”

Bauer Media Women’s Lifestyle & Entertainment General Manager Jayne Ferguson said she was delighted to bring TV Week Logie Awards to Queensland for the first time.

“The Logies have enjoyed considerable support over the many years they have been held in Melbourne but it’s the right time, as we celebrate our 60^th year, for us to share that excitement with another great Australian city and we look forward to the Gold Coast hosting television’s night of nights in 2018 and beyond,” Ms Ferguson said.
