Two Kowanyama businesses will be able to give their customers better access to Wi-Fi thanks to funding from the Palaszczuk Government’s Small Business Digital Grants.

Small Business Minister Leeanne Enoch said the successful projects were given a boost under the government’s $22.7 million Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy.

“Our Small Business Digital Grants provide up to $10,000 in matched funding to help small businesses embrace digital technologies and opportunities arising from digital disruption,” Ms Enoch said.

“We know just how important small businesses are to the state’s economy, especially in remote communities. We are committed to providing Queensland small businesses across the state the support they need to start, grow and employ.”

Kowanyama Sport and Recreation Inc received $3120 to go towards the installation of Wi-Fi hot spots in the Blue Café and the Kowanyama Canteen, while Kowanyama Hire received $1285 to go towards the installation of a Wi-Fi hotspot at the River House guest house.

Ms Enoch said the Palaszczuk Government has committed $6 million over three years under the Small Business Digital Grants Program to help small businesses build their digital capabilities.

“Thanks to this program, 248 businesses across the state are now able to purchase digital technology and services after $2 million in funding was allocated under rounds one and two of the program,” Ms Enoch said.

“Empowering small businesses to be digitally savvy is important for any business wherever they are, and it’s a key driver of our Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy.”
