The Palaszczuk Government is continuing to deliver jobs and economy-boosting infrastructure for regional Queensland with a new commitment of $1.37 million for five projects in the Cloncurry Shire.

Visiting Cloncurry, Minister for Rural Economic Development Bill Byrne said the projects allocated to Cloncurry Shire in the second round of the Works for Queensland program include building improvements to the Cloncurry Childcare centre, installation of irrigation at sports fields and resealing of roads.

“Councils across the state have told us how the Works for Queensland program is transforming their community infrastructure and delivering jobs and I am very happy to announce these new projects for Cloncurry Shire,” Mr Byrne said.

“Through this new round of funding, the Palaszczuk Government continues its partnership with Cloncurry Shire Council to deliver projects which the council estimates will create and support 33 jobs.

“Local road improvements have been identified as a priority, along with the construction of recreational facilities linking the key recreational areas of the town.

“The added bonus of course is that the funding gives council the ability to deliver important works which will benefit the entire community now and into the future.”

“Works for Queensland is all about delivering jobs in our regions and improving the liveability of communities - and these new projects will do just that.

“The $200 million committed in the second round of Works for Queensland builds on the great success that is being realised from the initial $200 million first round allocated to regional councils in February.”

Mayor for Cloncurry Greg Campbell said the program supports real, meaningful jobs for regional Queenslanders.

“We are extremely pleased that the Palaszczuk Government is investing in the Works for Queensland program – we’ve never seen a funding package quite like this before that puts jobs first,” Cr Campbell said.

“Important community projects like the building improvements to the Cloncurry Childcare centre will also be great for local families and for making our community an even better place to live and work.”

North West and Western Queensland councils will receive $15.25 million funding for 69 projects which councils advise will create and support 660 jobs across the Mount Isa City, Boulia Shire, Burke Shire, Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire, Flinders Shire, Carpentaria Shire, Diamantina Shire, Cloncurry Shire, Mornington Shire, McKinlay Shire, and Richmond Shire councils.
