Road safety upgrade works start at Warrego Highway in Minden

Construction on a vital $10 million road safety upgrade at the Warrego Highway/Lowood-Minden Road and Tallegalla Road intersection has begun.

Acting Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Steven Miles and Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden were on site today to announce the start of works.

“There has been community concern about safety at the intersection and these works put words into action to reduce the amount of incidents,” Mr Miles said.

“This road safety upgrade will also ease congestion and increase capacity to cater for future traffic volumes.

“This project involves reducing conflict points, improving turning lanes, reducing wait times for vehicles crossing and preventing excess traffic queuing.”

Mr Madden said the project had received funding from the Targeted Road Safety Program which is primarily sourced from revenue collected from the Camera Detected Offence Program.

“This is a vital upgrade and I’m pleased to see construction starting after the tender was awarded to Queensland Bridge and Civil in August,” he said.

“Fifty-four people have been injured in 32 crashes at this intersection between 2007 and 23 July 2017 - this upgrade will improve safety and will provide safer bus stop locations off the Warrego Highway.

“An average of 29 direct jobs will be supported over the life of the project which is expected to be finalised in early 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.”
