No holiday for $4.5M Kingaroy State High School hall project

Design for the new $4.5 million Kingaroy State High School hall is underway with construction to start in November, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said today.

Visiting Kingaroy today, the Premier said $4.5 million to build this large multi-purpose hall at Kingaroy SHS would support 20 jobs and also create important training opportunities for apprentices.

“All going to plan we expect Kingaroy SHS will have its new hall competed by May 2018,” the Premier said.

“In the past, major School events have had to be held in the Kingaroy Town Hall. I would welcome the invite to next year’s School speech night in the new hall.

“Under our $200 million Advancing Queensland Schools program we are building and upgrading halls at 30 state schools around the state.

“The new multi-purpose 1350 square metres hall at Kingaroy SHS will be an essential piece of infrastructure to benefit the school and the local community. It will include a full size netball court and facilities to enable its use as a performing arts centre.”

The Government has appointed BBN Constructions to complete the project design following an open tender process.

Kingaroy State High School Principal Ashley Roediger welcomed the new development.

“We are getting a multi-purpose hall which will be 1350 square metres it will include a full size netball court and facilities to enable its use as a performing arts centre,” Mr Roediger said.

“It will also provide us with many opportunities to conduct a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities.

“Our school is very community minded and we expect the local community will also enjoy access to the new hall, plus we will happily share its use with other local schools.

“In the past we have had to use the Kingaroy Town Hall to host large school events – from August next year we will be able to conduct all these activities here onsite.”
