Acting Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports
The Honourable Steven Miles

Students across Queensland will be safer thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s continued rollout of the school crossing supervisors program.

Nineteen schools are set to receive one or two of a total of 25 new supervisors being allocated during the 2017-18 financial year.

At Bundaberg South State School today to announce that school’s supervisor, Acting Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Steven Miles said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to keeping kids safe.

“Sending children to school can be stressful for parents, so it’s great to have that extra level of safety assurance crossing supervisors provide,” Mr Miles said.

“Thanks to the new supervisors, students across Queensland will benefit from the School Crossing Supervisor Scheme (SCSS) for many years to come.

“Peak traffic times will now be a lot safer for these students, as they will have the help of supervisors as they travel to and from school.”

Mr Miles said School Crossing Supervisors did a tremendous job keeping children safe and educating them about road safety.

“Supervised school crossings encourage pedestrians to cross the road at a safe location, rather than at different and sometimes unsafe points along the road,” Mr Miles said.

“Supervised crossings also decrease delays around schools for motorists, and remind them to take extra care on the road.”

Member for Bundaberg Leanne Donaldson said she was thrilled to see the safety of hundreds of students improved with the addition of the crossing supervisors.

“Like most schools, Bundaberg South State School can get quite busy in the morningsand afternoons, so it’s great these supervisors will be on site to make sure young Queenslanders can make it across the road safely,” she said.

“This is a terrific initiative and I’m proud to be part of a government that is doing everything it can to keep our students safe.”
