All talk no action from LNP

The Honourable Jackie Trad

Tim Nicholls and the LNP have revealed they have no plans to bust South East Queensland congestion, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said today.

Ms Trad said suggestions in media today that the LNP would cut Cross River Rail and conduct a “stocktake” of SEQ roads demonstrated that Tim Nicholls' only plan was to increase congestion.

“On Tuesday, it was a petition with no funding for a grossly underestimated second M1,” Ms Trad said.

“Yesterday, it was another petition for the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Line again with no funding commitment.

“Today, the LNP is talking about vague intentions for a ‘stocktake’ of SEQ roads but refusing to commit to the congestion-busting Cross River Rail, another plan for a plan.

"Tim Nicholls and the LNP have no ideas and no funds to fix congestion.

“Through the SEQ Regional Plan we’ve already identified priorities for our future transport network and we’ve been getting on with building the infrastructure that our region needs. This work has already been done.

“We don't need another plan, we need investment.

“That's what the Palaszczuk Government is delivering. We know congestion is an issue across the South East and we're actually funding solutions.”

Acting Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Steven Miles said that the Palaszczuk Government was investing in congestion-busting solutions.

“We have started work on Cross River Rail which will take 18,500 off the road by 2036. That’s the equivalent of more than 300 full buses each day.

“We have protected the Gold Coast corridor for future upgrades to the M1.

“And we have invested $21 billion over the next four years in new and upgraded road and rail infrastructure.

“Queenslanders know that Tim Nicholls’ record is cutting, sacking and selling.

“He needs to come clean about how he plans to fund these plans when he finally comes up with them - is he going to cut Cross River Rail and sell our assets?”
