North Queenslanders recognised at 2017 Queensland Training Awards

North Queensland’s best and brightest individuals and organisations are set to be recognised at the 2017 Queensland Training Awards State Gala Dinner tonight in Brisbane.

Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland Coralee O’Rourke said 11 regional finalists from North Queensland had been nominated for a State Award, which recognised excellence in vocational education and training (VET).

“The Queensland Training Awards are our chance to showcase the tremendous achievements of the state’s finest apprentices, trainees, vocational students, teachers, trainers, employers and organisations,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“In North Queensland, individuals and organisations have achieved some great things locally, and I’m excited their efforts will be recognised at a state level tonight.

“Each and every finalist should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved and I wish them the best of luck.”

Minister O’Rourke said the Queensland Training Awards were an important part of the Palaszczuk Government’s plan to create jobs now and into the future.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to supporting training and skills development for all Queenslanders, not matter where they live,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“We know quality training provides pathways for Queenslanders into employment and can sometimes be the key that many people need to reach this goal.

“Not only do the awards recognise the important role VET plays in skilling our communities, they also encourage all those involved to strive for better outcomes and to lift training standards.”

State winners will have the opportunity to progress to the Australian Training Awards in Canberra on 23 November 2017.
