Palaszczuk Government's Accelerate grants fast-track small business success

Small Business Minister Leeanne Enoch today (Tuesday) announced 19 Queensland small businesses will share more than $185,000 under the Palaszczuk Government’s Accelerate Small Business Grants Program.

Ms Enoch said more than $477,000 in Accelerate Small Business Grant funding has now been allocated to 53 Queensland small businesses since October.

“These grants are helping small businesses grow and employ more Queenslanders," Ms Enoch said.

"In contrast to the slash-and-burn approach of the Newman-Nicholls LNP Government, we understand that by supporting the small business sector, we are supporting economic growth across the state.

"That's why this government committed $22.7 million to deliver our Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy - which is driving economic growth and creating jobs," Ms Enoch said.

Accelerate Small Business Grant recipient Sue-Ellen Watts is the powerhouse behind Brisbane business Wattsnext.

Mrs Watts started her small business 10 years ago, working with small-to-medium-sized businesses to create an individual approach to their human resources needs to bring about cohesive teams and great workplaces.

Wattsnext now work with more than 100 clients across all aspects of human resources, from audits to exits and hiring to performance management.

“My business is growing and we need strong corporate processes, operational plans and financial monitoring to keep pace with this growth,” Mrs Watts said.

“The Accelerate Small Business Grant will put these necessary structures in place so we can continue to meet and exceed our clients’ needs and increase our turnover.

“Queensland is a terrific state to have a small business and grants programs like this one shows the Queensland Government means business when it comes to small business.”

Another Accelerate grant recipient, Furniture Hardware Supplies at Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast, opened its doors in 2007, wholesaling kitchen and bathroom hardware to cabinet makers.

Their Gold Coast operation has a staff of five, and they have their eye on franchising into northern Queensland, and eventually other regional centres.

“We’re experiencing dramatic growth right now and have become a respected large player in our industry,” owner Mark Turner said.

“We need to ensure the business is well structured to handle future growth and employment projections.

“To help us do this, we need a business expert to document our processes, create clear operational plans and ensure all staff are conversant in procedures.

“Thanks to our Accelerate Small Business Grant, we are able to get the business support and advice we need to make sure our success continues, so we can grow and employ more Queenslanders.”

Recipients of the Accelerate Small Business Grants receive matched funding of up to $10,000 to engage business mentors, coaches or an advisory board to work closely with their business for six-to-12 months.

Latest recipients are: Brisbane Alarm Monitoring Security Services (Cleveland); Sublime Technologies (Capalaba); Fast Energy (Mitchelton); Depth Logistics (South Brisbane); Darjack (Toowong); Digital Residence (Albion); Wattsnext (Coorparoo); Global Integrator (East Brisbane); Forrest Electrical Group (Kelvin Grove); NA Autosport and Engineering (Slacks Creek); Traxion Training (Bundall); Furniture Hardware Supplies (Varsity Lakes); Gold Coast Car Electrics and Mechanical (Molendinar); FNQ Roofing Solutions (Miriwinni); AS Auto and Spares (Tully); Chrisair Maintenance (Mackay); Insight Accounting and Finance (Goondiwindi); Garden City Landscape Centre (Toowoomba), and All Doors (Toowoomba).
