    Western Downs - increased investment and high growth

    The next two years will be a period of increased investment and high growth for Dalby and the Western Downs.

    Unemployment in the Western Downs is just 4.1% - more than 2% under the Queensland average.

    The region has an array of substantial new investments in the Dalby area that will boost our economy even more.

    With the announcement Ostwald Bros Group and Ostwald Construction Materials have been placed into voluntary administration, as leaders of the Queensland Government and the Western Downs Regional Council we reaffirm our commitment to work together to create more jobs and opportunities across the region.

    Some of the exciting new projects across the region include:

    • $635 million Warrego Highway Upgrade Program, Dalby East / West Access projects;
    • $200 million Darling Downs Solar Farm, Kogan supporting 180 construction staff and six operational staff;
    • $40 million expansion Tong Park piggery, construction staff plus 30 addition permanent staff;
    • $26 million expansion of the Dalby Bio-Refinery will generate 50 new jobs; 
    • QGC's 'Project Ruby' at Kumbarilla will see 161 wells drilled, creating 350 new and existing jobs over 16-month construction phase;
    • AGL’s Cooper’s Gap wind farm at Cooranga North, creating 200 construction jobs and 20 ongoing;
    • $12 million Bunnings development Dalby is opening soon, creating 50 new jobs and now advertising for staff; and
    • construction has commenced on the new Aldi Store in Dalby, which will create up to 20 jobs

    The Western Downs continues to lead Queensland in job creation and we are building a diverse and resilient economy.

    The Queensland Government and Council will aggressively pursue new investments and jobs to ensure that our citizens can enjoy the fantastic lifestyle of our region and so that our towns can grow and prosper.
