The Palaszczuk Government has appointed former Deputy Premier and Treasurer Terry Mackenroth as honorary chair of the taskforce charged with assessing non-conforming cladding.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said Mr Mackenroth would lend immense experience to Queensland’s nation leading push to combat non-conforming products like cladding.

“I am pleased to have someone of Terry’s calibre agree to oversee governance of the Audit Taskforce,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Terry has a wealth of experience. He was the Police and Emergency Services Minister at the creation of the modern Queensland Fire and Emergency Service during the Goss Government.

“He has been Minister for Housing, Local Government and Planning, and of course Treasurer and Deputy Premier of Queensland.

“Terry’s insights and leadership will be invaluable to this response, and I thank him for volunteering his time and skills to this important task.

“I am grateful to the Premier for accepting my recommendation that Mr Mackenroth be appointed and I am pleased that Terry has agreed to take up this important voluntary, unpaid role as a continued service to the state he has served so well.

“Yesterday Mr Mackenroth began his work by meeting with the Audit Taskforce and the Interdepartmental Committee on Cladding.

“He will convene the agencies each week and report to me on the progress of the Taskforce.

“Queenslanders should be assured that the Palaszczuk Government is going to every effort to get ahead of these potentially dangerous products and stay ahead.”

The Palaszczuk Government’s landmark and nation-leading Non-Conforming Product Chain of Responsibility laws are expected to be debated today (August 24).
