Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge will be bathed in purple lights tonight (21 August) to celebrate the valuable contribution of older people to our lives and to our communities.

Seniors Minister Coralee O’Rourke said she was delighted to see such a beautiful and public display of support for Seniors Week 2017.

“Brisbane City Hall was also lit up purple last night as the city once again embraces Seniors Week and shows its support for our older residents,” she said.

“Over the coming days, a number of events and activities will be held right across Queensland to mark Seniors Week and celebrate the contribution of older Queenslanders.

“From river cruises, information days and expos, tours, music, dancing, forums and exhibitions there are events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

“I would encourage all Queenslanders to join in some of the hundreds of celebrations on offer right across the state.”

Queensland Seniors Week 2017 runs from 19 – 27 August.

This year’s theme is ‘a Queensland for ALL ages’.

Mrs O’Rourke said more than 110 events and activities had received a share of more than $100,000 in State Government funding to celebrate Queensland Seniors Week.

“We are again proud to partner with the Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland, to help get these Seniors Week events and activities off the ground,” she said.

Queensland Seniors Week is coordinated by the Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland which receives Queensland Government funding to collaboratively plan, run and subsidise Seniors Week events and activities.
