    Premier's Business Advisory Council meets on Gold Coast

    Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's Business Advisory Council has met on the Gold Coast as part of the Government's initiative to Governing from the Gold Coast.

    Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Council was a key forum for direct engagement with business and working together on initiatives and programs to promote employment and trade. 

    "My Government is working with business to develop opportunities.  Working together there have been 77,300 jobs created in Queensland since the last election, exports have grown by $18 billion to a record $63 billion over the same period, international and interstate tourist numbers coming to Queensland is growing strongly and agriculture production is forecast to reach almost $20 billion," she said. 

    “The meeting of the Business Advisory Council on the Gold Coast also focussed on the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the opportunities for business.” 

    “In terms of preparing for the Games, at least 90% of construction contracts for the Games Village and Venues have been awarded to South East Queensland businesses, and 86% of the contracts awarded by GOLDOC have been to businesses that have a presence on the Gold Coast or in Queensland.” 

    The Council meeting was attended by Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Curtis Pitt, Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones,  Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) Chairman Peter Beattie and GOLDOC Chief Executive Officer Mark Peters.
