Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) have responded to several major incidents across Queensland today prompting firefighters to remind residents of the importance of being prepared.

QFES crews responded to major bushfire incidents on the Sunshine Coast, as well as major structure fires in Kilcoy and Noosa North Shore.

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said it was an extremely testing day for firefighters and thanked them for their work in protecting the community.

“The bushfire near Caloundra has had more than 170 firefighters working to bring the situation under control since it started yesterday,” Mr Ryan said.

“Crews have also responded to fires in Noosa North Shore and Kilcoy, with both fires causing significant property loss.

“I would like to thank all those who have worked around the clock to keep Queenslanders safe throughout these harsh conditions.

“Days like today prove just how important our fire and emergency services are and the work of firefighters is truly incredible.”

QFES Acting Commissioner Michael Wassing said today was an intense day of activity which was well managed by crews on the ground.

“The work of firefighters has been made easier by the tremendous response of the community throughout these major incidents and we thank them for their cooperation and support,” Mr Wassing said.

“This is a timely reminder about how quickly a fire can start and impact properties, which is why it is so important for residents to have a well prepared and practiced Bushfire Survival Plan.

“Firefighters are still in attendance at incidents throughout Queensland and the community needs to remain vigilant given the current weather conditions and throughout the bushfire season.”
