Premier and Ministers to focus on Cairns and far north jobs, frontline services

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and her Ministers will devote the week, including a full Cabinet meeting tomorrow (Monday, 10 July), to job generation and frontline services in far north Queenslandas part of governing from Cairns.

“The far north is a key contributor to the State’s economic strengthen and particularly to industries like tourism and agriculture,” the Premier said.

Last month’s State Budget has invested strongly in far north Queensland jobs with measures to support 3800 jobs across the region.

“Through the Budget, my Government is investing $819 million in infrastructure and about $1 billion to the Cairns and Hinterland and Torres Cape Hospital and Health Services.”

“With commitments like $176 million for the extension of the Cairns Convention Centre and $60 million towards the Cairns Shipping Development Project demonstrate the Government’s commitments to the region.”

The Premier said Ministers would travel in the Cairns and Wet Tropics region, Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait over the week meeting local residents and businesses.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is holding a special town hall meeting. Members of the community are invited to the town hall at Brothers’ Leagues Club, Anderson Street, Manunda from 7:30pm on Tuesday (11 July).

“This is an opportunity for Ministers and I to hear directly from the community on local issues,” she said.
