MONTREAL, CANADA: Queensland’s renewable fuels industry has signed up to a global drive to grow the use of clean, green fuels.

State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham today congratulated the Queensland Renewable Fuels Association on their partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Speaking from Montreal where is attending the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, Dr Lynham said the partnership was in sync with the Palaszczuk Government’s drive to build a $1 billion sustainable and export-oriented industrial biotechnology and bioproducts sector in Queensland.

“It’s important for industry to play their role in helping to achieve this $1 billion vision, that will create thousands of high-skill, highly-paid jobs of the future,” he said.

“Once again, it’s Queensland at the forefront of the biofutures revolution, with the QRFA the first mover in Australia aligning with the World Business Council’s below50 initiative.

QRFA signed a signed a partnership agreement with the council at the BIO congress in Montreal earlier today (Canadian time).

The agreement commits QRFA to scaling up the development and use of low-carbon fuels through the World Business Council’s below50 initiative.

Dr Lynham said the bio-revolution was picking up speed across Queensland as the Palaszczuk Government’s financial incentives and policy settings attracted international and local investment.

“We already have 16 existing and proposed bio-refineries on the books across the state from Atherton in the far north to Dalby, in the south-west with the potential to generate hundreds of jobs as well as fresh markets for rural producers,” he said.

“QRFA’s partnership agreement agreement is a positive step in fostering increasing demand for the fuels that these biofutures projects will be producing.”

The partnership signing comes just over a year since Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk released the government’s $20 million Biofutures 10 Year Roadmap and Action Plan at the BIO International Conference in San Francisco.
