Businesses in the Gladstone region are invited to an information session to learn about local opportunities for the main works package of the Gladstone Hospital Emergency Department (ED) project.

The information session will be held at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre from 1pm to 3pm on Monday, 17 July 2017.

The $42 million project was announced by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in February 2016.

Health and Ambulance Services Minister Cameron Dick said the new ED was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $180 million Enhancing Regional Hospitals program and was being built specifically to meet the needs of the region and its people and to reflect the latest advances in healthcare and technology.

He said tenders would be called later in the year for the main contractor.

“The main works package will consist of the construction of a new ED building and refurbishment of the existing space for community care and outpatient services,” Mr Dick said.

“Main construction of the new facility is expected to be under way by the start of the second quarter, 2018.”

Mr Dick said as a government, we are committed to making Queenslanders among the healthiest people in the world by 2026 and this means improving access to quality and safe healthcare in all its different forms and settings, including in regional areas such as Central Queensland.

Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the new emergency department is one of the largest single government investments in Gladstone in recent years.

“This will be a huge boost for the Gladstone community as well as the region as a whole,’’ Mr Butcher said.
