Today’s Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Coordinating Committee meeting on the Gold Coast marks just 300 days until the start of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones said the Palaszczuk Government was heartened by the positive feedback received by the international federation which confirms planning for the major international event is indeed on time and on budget.

“Holding an event of this scale provides very specific challenges around such things as infrastructure, transport and security,” Ms Jones said.

“These issues can only be well managed if all partners are committed to working together. This high level of partnership has been demonstrated this week.

“I want to thank Mayor Tom Tate for his support and for working closely with our government on the Games. We both want the Games to be one of Queensland's greatest success stories.

“The people of Queensland can be assured that next year’s games will not only showcase world class sport but deliver economic and legacy benefits that will be shared by future generations of Gold Coasters, Queenslanders and Australians.

“I thank GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters and the team for their continued efforts in making sure next year’s games are the biggest and best Australia has ever seen.”
