$6 million investment to create 110 new Townsville jobs

Townsville will receive 110 new jobs thanks to a $6 million investment by the Queensland Investment Corporation to expand the Domain Central shopping centre.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the new investment was a great vote of confidence in the Townsville region.

“Around 60 local jobs will be created during the construction phase through builders and subcontractors and another 50 jobs provided on project completion, including retail staff, cleaners, and security.

“Most importantly, it will provide new job opportunities in Townsville as QIC will be contracting local builders and actively supporting the employment of locals.

“This is all about Queensland investing in Queensland, and it’s great to see the Townsville community being supported by this QIC investment.”

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart turned the first sod on the project today.

“For a leading company like QIC to be making a significant investment in our region demonstrates their belief in a positive economic future for Townsville,” he said.

“The redevelopment will add more than 1,100m2 of floor space, including a new convenience-style IGA, six new retail spaces and additional amenities including toilets and a new bus stop.

“Projects like these are vital for our community, and we’re thrilled to see local builders, workers and business owners taking advantage of the opportunities being created through this development.

“Construction of the redevelopment is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“This is excellent news for local businesses and the community, who have been doing it tough.”

Domain Central is the single largest destination homemaker lifestyle and outlet shopping centre in Queensland.  It was acquired by QIC in July 2015.

QIC is a Queensland Government-owned corporation that manages over $79 billion on behalf of 100 Australian and international clients.
