Far North Queensland companies called to tender for new Gordonvale Police Station

The Palaszczuk Government has called on eligible Far North Queensland companies to tender for the construction of the new Gordonvale Police Station. 

Treasurer and Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt said the project would not only deliver on the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to frontline services, it would help improve employment and training outcomes for indigenous North Queenslanders.

“Our police are some of our hardest working Queenslanders, and the new station will mean they have the facilities they need to get the job done,” Mr Pitt said. “We’re looking for local contractors to get involved in the construction of a new single storey police station in Gordonvale, which will include meeting and interview rooms, exhibit stores, a major incident room, and an underground rainwater tank.

“This build will replace the existing police station, and provide state of the art facilities for staff to combat crime in the region.” 

Minister for Housing and Public Works said the project had been designated as an Indigenous Project under the Queensland Government Building and Construction Training Policy, which mean at least ten percent of the work hours completed on this site will be completed by local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander workers and apprentices. 

“Companies putting in a tender for the works will need to provide an Indigenous Employment Opportunities Plan to demonstrate how they ensure Indigenous workers are employed,” Mr de Brenni said. 

“These works provide a great opportunity for Cairns tradies and their families, and I encourage every eligible local business to put in a tender for this project.”
