Palaszczuk Government energises Maryborough Ergon site

Dozens of jobs will be created in Maryborough thanks to the redevelopment of Ergon Energy’s Searle Street depot.

Planning for the first phase of the project has already begun, with almost $6.5 million allocated in the Palaszczuk Government’s 2017-18 Budget - part of Energy Queensland’s $1.412 billion capital works program for 2017-18.

Energy Minister Mark Bailey said the works would enhance Ergon’s commitment to Maryborough and provide its customers with improved support.

He said the funding allocation would enable the design for the redevelopment to be completed in the coming financial year with construction work due to start in 2018-19.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said the investment was evidence of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to boosting jobs and vital infrastructure in the regions, with more than 20 workers required during the construction phase.

“An allocation of $35.7 million has been earmarked for future State Budgets to undertake the construction, which will create dozens of jobs for Fraser Coast tradies in various sectors of the building industry,” Mr Saunders said.

“This capital expenditure program forms part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to providing a safe, secure and highly reliable electricity supply to all Queensland customers that is both cost effective and dependable by continuing a focus on efficiencies, asset management, and network capability.”
