Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

The Palaszczuk Government will govern from Cairns and far north Queensland next month (10 to 15 July), Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

Ms Palaszczuk said a full Cabinet meeting in far north Queensland and with Ministers in the region over the week provided opportunities to work across a range of issues.

“The Budget this week has invested strongly in far north Queensland jobs. The Budget will directly support 3800 jobs,” she said.

“Significantly, we are investing $819 million in infrastructure and $1.1 billion to the Cairns and Hinterland and Torres Cape Hospital and Health Services.”

Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said he welcomed the Ministers to the far north and welcomed the opportunity for the community to raise issues with Ministers directly.

“With commitments like $176 million for the extension of the Cairns Convention Centre and $60 million towards the Cairns Shipping Development Project demonstrate the Government’s commitments to the region,” he said.

“The Government has committed an extra $50 million for the Back to Work program that has already helped more than 1000 people in the far north into jobs. The Government also committed another $200 million for the Works for Queensland program for regional local government projects to support local jobs.”
